Barnicoat misses out on points in finale

Ben Barnicoat narrowly missed out on collecting further points as he completed his maiden race weekend in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Paul Ricard, France.

Following his five-place grid penalty handed down by stewards after Saturday’s race two collision in which he failed to finish the race, Barnicoat was again in the action at the start of the final race.

The Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver began in 11th position, and despite making an excellent start in which he made up three places, Ben was forced to take evasive action when Motopark racer Sergio Sette Camara was hit on to two wheels. He banged wheels with Barnicoat who swerved to the outside of the track and ran deep into the first corner.

Barnicoat soon made his way back up to 11th and stretched clear of the scrap between race two winner Callum Ilott and Sette Camara.

Ben was unable however to chase down Hitech GP team-mate Nikita Mazepin. On the final lap, with rain in the air, Barnicoat defended his position from a charging Ilott to the flag.
